They describe how to switch to the alternate screen and back. On my system, there are two terminfo entries (terminfo being a newer solution that replaces termcap). Do you know which type you have. Today ft came up with a nice feature of less which enables you to set termcap colors by environment variables. I recently wrote how to use terminfo to get colored manpages. I have a Personal Terminal and have Termcap and Terminfo entries for Solaris for it and some scans of part of the manual. Explanation: ti is the termcap equivalent of the terminfo entry smcup, and te is the termcap equivalent of the terminfo entry rmcup. There are exactly two terminfo entries, they are "aixterm" and "xterm". It identifies itself as an xterm(1) , when terminfo(5) definitions are available named putty and putty-256color , which more precisely define what the terminal can and cannot do, and their various custom escape sequences. Oddly it came with a PT102 manual so I can scan that if required.
